Penka Kouneva

Game & film composer of "exquisite talent" Penka Kouneva began her career in film/TV in 2000 and pivoted into scoring games in 2009 (Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Games, with themes by Steve Jablonsky, the "Transformers" composer with whom Penka has worked since 2004).

Recently, Penka has scored a dozen award-winning indie games (PS4 Rollers of the Realm, H-Hour, VR ride Hades), indie features (Primrose Lane and Midnight Movie), and has worked on Sony's Bloodborne game (as a Lead Arranger, working with 6 composers and unifying the sound of the score). Penka's composition awards include: Game Audio Network Guild's Recognition Award (2016), Sundance Composer Fellowship, two Ovation Awards, The Copland Award, Hollywood Music in Media Award, Square Enix Music Online, and others.

Penka has also worked as an orchestrator on films (Matrix, Transformers, Elysium, Ender's Game, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and games (World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, Diablo III, Overwatch, Bloodborne, Gears of War 2, 3, Sims, Lord of the Rings War In The North). She was clasically trained as an orchestral composer, started her Hollywood career working for Hans Zimmer, and is an industry leader and mentor (on the Advisory Board of GDC, Sundance Institute, Game Audio Network Guild mentor). Penka has released two orchestral concept albums: The Woman Astronaut (2015, on Universal Music Group, released to 5-star press) and A Warrior's Odyssey (2012, on Sumthing Else released to 5-star press as well). She created these two CDs to grow as an artist; they brought her career-changing jobs and opportunities. Penka is thrilled to present at Intel Buzz Workshop.
